Why hire a freelance editor?

An editor can do more than your computer’s spelling or grammar check can do.
Can your computer tell when you’re using it’s when you should be using its? Can it tell you if there’s a hole in your plot, or that your character had blonde hair in Chapter 1 but now she has red?

An editor can save you money.
Imagine how much it would cost to revise and reissue an incorrect document. Now compare that to hiring an editor and getting it done correctly the first time. Seems like simple math to me!

An editor is there to make you look good.
You want your writing to make you look professional and credible. One misspelled word or incorrect fact could turn your reader against you in a flash. Make sure it’s your message that your readers are thinking about, not those embarrassing mistakes.

These are only a few factors to think about.

Don’t assume that your work is perfect. You’d be surprised how many errors an untrained eye can miss! And don’t assume that a friend or colleague can do the same job for free. A professional editor can show you the problems with your document and how to make it better – which in the end makes you look better. A friend or colleague might not be able to tell you for fear of upsetting you.

There are many other benefits to hiring a freelance editor. We don’t have “office hours” the way many other people do. Freelance editing is far from a 9-5 job. We do everything we can to meet your deadline. That might mean working off hours or weekends and sometimes even holidays.

If you work for a company and you’re thinking about hiring an editor, a freelancer can save you money in the long run.  You’re only paying for the work that is actually done when it is needed to be done. You’re not paying for health or dental benefits. A freelancer can be a smart choice over a salaried employee, especially in these difficult times, when companies can’t afford to hire full-time editors.
